Such thing sounds like a threat to your safety. Don’t take it for granted. Secondly, you must also know the exact date when the offense was done or the name of the person who is involved in such crime. There are also available web sites on the Internet that allows free access to these records; so, you can also consider them as a good source. On the other hand, in cases when the police department does not have the information that you need, you might be advised to check on your state courthouse to obtain the desired result.

It could be an easy access or the other way around, that depends on the state’s jurisdiction when it comes to dealing with Police Arrest Records. They are indeed part of those public records; however, it is the states’ call to require some forms of consent, signatures, or fingerprints before the requestor can obtain the said information or it can also be just a simple request away towards having the desired report. That is beyond everyone’s control; it’s the state’s law that should prevail and anyone who violates that will be sanctioned accordingly.

Are Police Reports Public Records? Having these police records available to any member of the public truly makes it a public record. As a matter of fact, police departments are offering free service for this. However, you have to take note that there are instances in which the law will prohibit any access and use of these records especially if they contain sensitive and private information of a person. In those cases, only those law enforcers or anyone with authority are allowed to check on them according to the commands of the state.

Book Review: Arctic Drift, a Dirk Pitt Novel, by Clive Cussler

February 27th, 2010

As usual, Clive Cussler stays right on top of current world events in his latest Dirk Pitt novel, Arctic Drift. This time, not surprisingly, the book set in the year 2011 revolves around the financial crisis and global warming.

The bad guy of the story, Mitchell Goyette, is a Canadian energy tycoon with a public facade of green technology and renewable resource businesses. However, his dark underbelly conceals heavy involvement in oil and natural gas.

The United States faces a financial meltdown, aggravated by the threat of an international boycott if the country does not decrease its carbon dioxide emissions from coal fired power plants. Canada holds the key to America’s salvation in the form or an enormous wealth of natural gas reserves.

The sitting American president, who in 2011 is neither Democratic nor Republican but an independent, hopes to use Canadian natural gas to replace coal for producing electricity and even for powering cars converted to run on natural gas.

However, Goyette is in a perfect position to take advantage of the United State’s desperate gamble, and he does so without conscience. To the Canadian public, Goyette is an environmental hero who invests millions in wind power and carbon sequestration. Unbeknownst to the masses, he’s unscrupulously involved in every dirty industry that will make him more money, in particular the oil sands of Athabasca, Alberta, and the Melville natural gas fields of the Canadian Arctic, over which he has full control.

Promising the U.S. government a nearly unlimited supply of the Melville natural gas to help solve the American energy crisis, and consequently also the financial crisis brought on by soaring oil prices, Goyette underhandedly signs a secret deal with the Chinese to instead sell them the gas at 10% above market value, with no intention of keeping his word to the U.S.

(In the real world, any business in breach of such a huge and important contract would probably not survive. But it’s a good set-up for an intriguing story line.)

Even so, the backstabbing of the United States as a business-partner is the least of Mitchell Goyette’s shenanigans. He also bribes high ranking Canadian officials, creates toxic waste that kills wildlife and people, pays to have property stolen or vandalized, and for his opposition to be assassinated.

Of course, what Goyette fails to take into consideration is Dirk Pitt, the hero of twenty novels by Clive Cussler, including this most recent installment. In the end, Pitt manages to wreak havoc with all of Goyette’s ill-willed plans.

Arctic Drift is a seamless joint effort between Clive Cussler and son, Dirk Cussler. It is difficult to tell their penmanship apart. Whatever sections of the book were written by Dirk Cussler, he did an outstanding job of emulating his father’s inimitable style. (Oxymoron intended!)

All in all, Arctic Drift is an excellent action thriller. It’s does not have the cover-to-cover non-stop action of some of the older Dirk Pitt novels by Cussler, but it does have quite enough action, plus the story line is brilliant and intriguing and keeps you wanting to read more. And as always in Dirk Pitt’s world, the villains are as clever as they are evil, and the heroes as pure as Arctic snow.

Britt Hellman lives in North Carolina with her spouse and three children. She operates her own copywriting company from home. Clive Cussler has been one of her favorite writers since reading his Trojan Odyssey, a Dirk Pitt Novel, in 2003. She writes reviews like this one on Arctic Drift, by Clive and Dirk Cussler, for the fun of sharing that excitement.

Self Defense Made Easy With The TASER C2

February 27th, 2010

If you have already bought a TASER C2 you probably are aware how easy it is to use. You probably took the time to read the owner manual and watch the training DVD that comes with each TASER C2. By doing this you became familiar with the most effective way to use the TASER C2. If you have just purchased your TASER C2 make sure you take the time and go through the training DVD and owner manual as soon as it arrives.

The Lithium Battery Cartridge that powers the unit has enough stored power to last for about 50 firings of the unit. A word of caution here, do not put the magazine cartridge into the C2 before the Power Cartridge. Put the battery cartridge in first and then put the magazine cartridge in. After you have inserted the battery cartridge a green light will light up to let you know the TASER C2 is operational.

The next thing you need to do is load your air cartridges. Make sure the safety switch cover is closed and that the TASER is pointing in a safe direction. Remove the cartridge cover at the front of the C2 and insert the cartridge until you hear it click. That indicates it is locked in place. Just to make sure, gently pull on the sides of the cartridge. There is not an “up” or “down” on the air cartridges so you don’t have to worry about putting the cartridge in wrong. This is also a nice feature for when you are under any stress so you can reload quickly if needed. Each cartridge carries the probes, wire, and compressed air. Do not try to open these cartridges.

Do not try to imitate the fancy hand positions we see on TV shows when someone is using a gun when you use the TASER C2. Always hold it just like you would a handgun, vertically. Slide the safety cover back so that the firing button is now exposed and aim at the assailant. Every C2, except for one model, comes equipped with a built in laser sighting device. This laser will place a red dot on your assailant when you point it at him. This dot represents the approximate landing position of the top probe. Try to shoot for the chest area. Make sure you are within 15 feet of your attacker. That is the maximum range of the probes.

The spread of the two probes varies with the distance you are away from an attacker. For the best results try to be about 7 to 10 feet away from him. At this distance your probe spread will be about 16 inches which is what we want. This will produce maximum effectiveness. Try to make sure you get more then a 4 inch spread of the probes.

You should always practice firing with the unit before you actually need to use it. You can practice across the room at targets to get the best feel for the C2. TASER units have little miniature barbs in them that will actually puncture the skin or penetrate clothing to send the electrical volts and wattage into the body. When you are ready to use a TASER C2, flip the safety switch to expose the firing button and you will see a light that will be the indicator that the gun is ready to fire.

Again, the TASER C2 is so well designed it is actually two personal protection products in one. One the TASER function, and two, a stun gun feature. If you have fired at an assailant and missed and do not have another magazine handy, you can apply the two electrodes at the end of the device directly to the attackers exposed skin, deliver a shock, and get away to safety.

As soon as your attacker is on the ground and incapacitated, place the TASER C2 on the ground and run away to a safe location. Do not try to retrieve your TASER C2. The manufacturer will replace your unit if you send them a copy of the police report of your attack.

What To Know About Traffic Ticket DUI Impaired Driving Speeding Tickets Law

February 25th, 2010

There are laws in place to keep the roadways safe. When someone breaks one of these laws, he or she may be pulled over by a law enforcement officer. It is up to the discretion of the police officer whether or not to give the offending driver a ticket. If the officer issues a citation, the person is required to follow certain laws that go along with the ticket.

Upon being pulled over, a police officer will ask to see a valid license, valid registration and valid proof of insurance. If any of these documents are not current or not in the possession of whoever is driving, the officer may issue a ticket.

There are times that an officer will give out tickets for damage to a car. These are fix it tickets. They can be given for missing license plates, and when running lights, headlights or taillights are out.

An officer may also give a driver a ticket if the person driving disobeys traffic laws. These include running red lights or stop signs, speeding, or driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

When someone disobeys any of the traffic laws, a police officer may issue the offender a ticket. When this happens, the officer will have the person being issued the citation sign the bottom of it. This is an acknowledgment that he or she will appear in court on the given date and pay the fine on time.

The three different kinds of tickets given are parking tickets, tickets for infractions and tickets for misdemeanors. Infraction and misdemeanor tickets will be discussed.

The first type of ticket is for an infraction. These are given for fix it tickets and disobeying certain traffic laws.

One type of infraction is a fix it ticket. The offending person will be required to get the problem repaired. Upon doing so, he or she will need to go to a law enforcement agency office and get the ticket signed off. This shows that they got the required repairs. The driver will then need to appear on their court date to show the signed off ticket and pay any fines the court issues.

If a ticket is issued for a moving violation, the person will have to pay a fine and possibly appear in court. If the person has received no other moving violations, he or she may attend traffic school. This will allow the person to have no points put on their license. However, they will still have to pay any fines. They will also have to pay whatever the traffic school charges for the class.

Typically, if tickets are for an infraction, then it will only require the person to pay a fine. However, if the offender does not pay the fine or show up to his or her court date by the date stated, his or her driver license can be suspended. Law enforcement can also put out a warrant for his or her arrest and an additional three hundred dollars can be added to the original fine.

The other type of ticket is a misdemeanor ticket. These are given for offenses such as driving under the influence.

A misdemeanor offence has greater consequences than infractions. This means that they may be required to pay a fine of up to three thousand eight hundred fifty dollars. They also might have to serve jail time in either city or county jail up to one year. Their license may also be suspended. It can be gotten back if they take a special class.

Infraction and misdemeanor tickets have different penalties. It is important to know the difference between the two. It is also important to know the consequences of not paying fines on time and of not appearing in court on the date scheduled.
